Welcome to Deer Country's Newsletter! This is a half IC, half OOC informational post. We strongly urge our player base to read all Newsletters posted to the community as they contain important information about that month's weather, environmental changes, other plot-important information, important dates, and any important mod announcements. Newsletters will allow a chance for players to post about the impact their characters may have made in the setting using the form down below.
You can always feel free to ask questions on newsletters. Of course, we may sometimes suggest you wait until the event for certain questions, but for the most part, we should be able to help you out! Players are welcome to engage with the prompts/elements from Newsletter as soon as they are accepted into the game. Players may also use newsletter prompts as a basis for writing samples in applications.

CURRENT SEASON:: March kicks off the Season of Tears. This comes in with a False Spring and the beginning of what Trenchies refer to as the life cycle, the harshness of Season of the Bone finally beginning to fade.
THE MOON:: The Wild moon fills the sky with a strange, captivating green glow. This brings with it the sweet scent of honey and flowers. Moon Presence can be heard singing in foreign tongues during the night. During the day, a soft weeping can be heard all throughout Deer Country.
PATRON PTHUMERIAN:: The Moss King is the patron of March and he will be seen wandering all throughout Deer Country. Wherever he walks, plant life flourishes behind him. One can tell where he has sat for moss covers the area. With him comes an excited, fresh feeling that seems to carry over to the Trenchies. The Moss King encourages people to get out of their homes and stretch aching bones. It's time to warm up, everyone, and what better way than to play some games? The Moss King promises some great activities for the nice weather!
MONTHLY BLESSINGS:: On your Blessed Day this month, your Patron Pthumerian will bless you with a pair of Ten-Sided Dice. The dice come in a variety of aesthetics and colors, seemingly well suited to your character's preferred aesthetics. Any character can roll the die. When they roll, if the number is odd, the character will experience a significant boost to their blood-based abilities as well as a clearer mind, providing relief from corruption. It has been known to even help pull people back from beasthood if the die is rolled at the feet of a beast. The higher the odd number, the longer this will last, and the amount of time coincides with the number (ie; 3 = 3 hours, 5 = 5 hours, 7 = 7 hours, etc.) If the number is even, then the character will face a drastic depletion of their abilities and may even have their blood react negatively to their bodies. In other words? Vilebloods might feel like they have been poisoned, warmbloods might feel completely weak and cold, coldbloods might feel like they are being burned, darkbloods may feel like their whole bodies are being contorted. Corruption will drastically rise and you may be transformed into a beast. It truly is a gamble. But is the gamble worth the risk?

This mass melt makes the entire town sound like it's crying, water flowing into the streets. It's a False Spring, Moss King's presence encouraging a flourish of vegetation just about everywhere - maybe even in your own home! There is no logic to the flourish: strawberries grow out of concrete, apples grow on vibrant rose bushes, pineapples sprout out of your kitchen wall. All of the food is delicious and fresh. You might as well stock up! Although Sleepers are resistant to usual colds, some might suffer some allergies due to the heavy pollination everywhere. Anything that can grow in our world or fantasy worlds can grow at this time. Yes this includes magical plants. Just remember not to break the setting.
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES:: Effects of lockjoint will finally fade away at this time. The world has warmed up and so have Sleepers.
EFFECTS FROM PREVIOUS MONTH:: The Hex from February is no longer in effect for those suffering from it.

Each month, blood types will be impacted differently depending on events, Pthumerians, and moon cycles. These changes will vary significantly. These changes are meant to represent the intricate relationship between Sleeper blood and the world around them.
Players are always welcome to opt-out of anything in this section, but we do strongly encourage participants to help create a consistent atmosphere for the game. To those who opt-out OOCly, characters cannot ICly contradict these events.
There will be some months where all blood types are impacted or only some blood types are impacted. Rarely will there be months where no blood types are impacted.
WARMBLOODS:: This will be a physically painful month for warmbloods. Their bodies will feel heavy and sluggish, difficult to move. There will be frequent body aches. Most physical contact with warmbloods will merely hurt them more.
COLDBLOODS:: Coldblood will have temporary influence/control over plantlife this month. It seems the same energy they use for electric/fire/ice abilities is now accessible for the growth/death of plants in their immediate area. May be able to grow plants out of nothing.
PALEBLOODS:: Palebloods will struggle greatly with hallucinations during this month. They will see mushrooms everywhere and struggle to recognize the faces of people they know and care for. They will see mushrooms sprouting out of people and find it difficult to keep track of reality.
VILEBLOODS:: Vileblood will be unusually non-toxic and healing this month. Rubbing vileblood over simple injuries such as cuts or fractures will rapidly heal said injuries. All vileblood-coated items will lose their poison effect this month and instead be for healing. Vileblood's usual effects will return in April.
DARKBLOODS:: Darkbloods will be able to see the "life pulse" all throughout town. They will be able to see energy in living organisms, and see some sort of colored aura radiating around them. This aura can be customized to each individual. When someone dies or becomes sick, darkbloods will be able to see the impact on their aura.
LEVELS OF CORRUPTION:: Corruption will be extremely high this month especially when the event occurs.
LEVELS OF BEASTHOOD:: Beasthood will be rampant as vegetation increases and more oppurtunities for madness arise. Beasts in the setting will be more dangerous than they have been all of Bone Season.

Did your character start a new business last month? Did they have a massive fight? Solve some mysteries? Then this is the place to summarize the impact they have had on the setting! We hope this makes it easier for everyone to collectively stay in the loop about what other players are doing. Cobra Kai

Character Name(s): Johnny Lawrence, Terry Silver
When the impact happened: Ongoing
Nature of Impact: Character business.
Impact Summary: Johnny Lawrence has opened up a Karate Dojo. Cobra Kai. He'll be accepting students young and old to learn the way of the fist.
Future Impact Plans: There is a planned Tournament player plot in the works. Along with a variety of fight schools opening up or getting involved in vague faction type battles/dick measuring contests. Feel free to join in!
Eventually Johnny will be forced out of his own Dojo by Terry Silver and be forced to make another one named Eagle Fang.
Squid Ink!

When the impact happened: February and ongoing
Nature of Impact: Personal Plot/Broader Impact
Impact Summary: Vira-Lorr verified publicly that Sleepers can, indeed, produce their own Ink. Because Squid Ink potions called Antidotes were present throughout Deerington 1.0, she is attempting to research the properties of squid ink produced by sleepers to see if it carries magical properties that can serve as an antidote for corruption or curse effects
She will be researching these effects with anyone willing to help. If anyone is willing to 'donate' additional squid ink to the effort, she will not turn it down, as it is hard enough to come by. She is also open to finding anyone capable of bio-medical and alchemical/magical research.
Her goal is to find a temporary curative for people in beast or corrupted states.
Future Impact Plans: First of all, I'm going to leave in Milk's hands whether or not Vira-Lorr's research can bear fruit. I, as a player, would prefer that the antidotes not become a replacement for the Night Walker/Therapist mechanic of interaction being a safeguard against corruption. So I personally would prefer that any success result in something that only offers a temporary reprieve (possibly enabling more serious efforts to save someone deep in corruption). But this one's in Milk's court whether or not it it will actually happen, and logically will take time to complete.
Vira-Lorr will probably have further research incidents that relate to Body Horror/Transformation themes as she further explores her blood-based vileblood powers. Down the road I will probably have a Beast event simply with her overdoing it and losing herself to corruption, but that's not in the immediate future. Hey, I have a beast form lined up. Shame not to use it right? Not in March, though.
OOC Impact Summaries

Character Name(s): Blue and assorted (confirmed: Flynn, Yuri, Bolin, Lucius, Kaeya -- but still open for more)
When the impact happened: Early to mid-March
Nature of Impact: Personal happening, invite to some shenanigans for y'all
Impact Summary: Following the death of Yuri during the Leviathan fight - 2/25 - the cottage home in Crenshaw and some small distance nearby (at other players' discretion) can be perceived as particularly dreadful and ominous - even to non-palebloods. Just Bad Vibes all around - something to avoid...or investigate
Future Impact Plans: In March, Blue's going psionically feral and will be coercing Flynn, Yuri, and any visitors to stay in the house for their own safety. This will include mental manipulation, hallucinations, straight-up gaslighting, and telekinetic restraints as situation requires.
Current parties involved that I have confirmation on: Flynn, Yuri, Kaeya, Bolin, and Lucius

Duration ought to be at least 2 weeks as beasthood amplifies, Blue sheds his physical form (save for a phylactery), and becomes something of a psychic lich greedily hoarding his loved ones and those succumbing to his urgent and voracious need to protect.
Yuri will be able to momentarily sever the thrall over his mind with Blue's birthday sword and publicly call for help, at which point people can come in to try and rescue captives/put Blue down.
Doing so will require breaking the last physical vestige of Blue - a jagged paleblood gem that will be fiercely guarded by both himself and those captives he still has mental control of.
You're welcome to answer the call, plot w some of the captives to do some fighting/liberating (severing psionic links by knocking them out or using one of the Doorway blades from February will do it - there will be at least the one from Blue in the house) or volunteer to crush that bloodstone as I don't have a confirmed doer of that yet
This lil yarn will be contained to one big ol log with progression prompts for both intended victims as well as opportunities for rescuers to come in and butt heads with captives and Blue alike

Fated Leviathan

Character Name(s): Paul Atreides and numerous others
When the impact happened: The initial warning came on January 22nd, generating the base camp in early February which ran through to February 25th, when the final battle occurred
Nature of Impact: Monster fight event
Impact Summary:
On January 22nd, Paul Atreides reached out to the Trench Sleeper community about his visions of a beast known as the Fated Leviathan. The Sleepers - some of whom appeared in his visions, and some who did not - organized to combat this looming threat.
In early February the base camp on the Farther Shores was finalized. Here, those involved mingled, trained, planned, and worked on several large scale projects. These included: mass divination by seers, the development of antidotes to the Leviathan's toxins, drilling of strike teams, and the engineering of a method to enlarge several mechs for the battle. A group chat for discussion was also launched.
On February 25th, the Fated Leviathan arrived. Despite the valiant efforts of all involved and the eventual defeat of the beast, the costs were high and the casualties great. Summaries of events in the battle can be found under the Battle Report sections in the log post, including the records of the honored dead, currently numbering seven.
Future Impact Plans:
Going forward, most of the impact of this event will be focused on dealing with the aftermath of the battle, particularly for those closest to the various deceased. The Leviathan itself has left a mess on the beach that will have largely resolved by March 4th, although the quantities of Beastblood spilled will have lingering effects (optionally) on the specific section of shoreline for some time.
