DECEMBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to Deer Country's Newsletter! This is a half IC, half OOC informational post. We strongly urge our player base to read all Newsletters posted to the community as they contain important information about that month's weather, environmental changes, other plot-important information, important dates, and any important mod announcements. Newsletters will allow a chance for players to post about the impact their characters may have made in the setting using the form down below.

You can always feel free to ask questions on newsletters. Of course, we may sometimes suggest you wait until the event for certain questions, but for the most part, we should be able to help you out! Players are welcome to engage with the prompts/elements from Newsletter as soon as they are accepted into the game. Players may also use newsletter prompts as a basis for writing samples in applications.

ENVIORMENTAL CHANGES (IC)
CURRENT SEASON:: December keeps the bite of Bone Season going strong. The world has fallen asleep but the terror is still wide awake.

THE MOON:: Bone Moon. This bone-pale moon can be blinding to look at for too long and strike fear into the heart if you find yourself all alone under its light. It can chill a soul to the core. Moon Presence can be seen floating gently through the sky, moving far less than usual, occassionally vanishing over the ocean.

PATRON PTHUMERIAN:: Dorothea. Rabbit prints can be found in the snow all throughout the city. There seems to be an increase of deer traveling in the streets and it seems they hold no fear towards Trenchies or Sleepers. Trenchies will heavily caution Sleepers against hurting any of the deer. After all, this is Deer Country. Deer are to be respected, not killed.

MONTHLY BLESSINGS:: On your Blessed Day this month, your Patron Pthumerian will bless you with an Unlucky Rabbit's Foot. This little foot will appear on a keychain hanging somewhere around your house. They say that a true rabbit's foot will bring great fortune - but those jerks were way off! This foot will not bring its owner or the person holding it any misfortune, but it will bring terrible misfortune to those around them. This can range anywhere from making someone trip over their own feet or saying the wrong thing at the wrong time or...well. Much worse! These have been used by Hunter's in battle to gain an advantage on the battlefield, bringing horrific, fatal bad luck to those they oppose. However, there does seem to be some truth to the Rabbit's Foot bringing luck. During the full moon, the Rabbit's Foot will grant its owner/whoever is holding it enormous luck - but it will also lose its unlucky quality during this time. Handle with care! You never know what horrific series of events you might set off around you...

THE WEATHER:: The city is now regularly blanketed in heavy snow. The streets can be dangerous to navigate with black ice hidden in plain sight. The days are cold, but nights are frigid. You can expect to have to bust your back shoveling if you really want to work against the snow. Might be wise to invest in some sleds and snowshoes. Some Sleepers might start to find that it's starting to get a little painful to move their joints. Huh! Must just be the cold.

SIGNIFICANT CHANGES:: Trenchies gradually begin to keep indoors more often than not. They may light up blue lamps in front of their homes to indicate that they are available for services, but don't want to risk the weather. More Trenchies may take visits to Lumenwood as they go through seasonal sicknesses, but at least Sleepers don't really need to worry about it! Still might be nice to help out fellow human citizens.

EFFECTS FROM PREVIOUS MONTH:: Trenchies will still be encouraging Sleepers to remember to stick together, but there seems to be more of an emphasis on an emotional bond rather than a physical one. "Don't forget that you're Sleepers together." Blood Crazed Zealots may still appear from time to time to drag people back to the Sleeper Farm, but it seems like they have done a good job filling their blood quota for the season.

MONTHLY INFLUENCE ON BLOOD TYPES (IC)
Each month, blood types will be impacted differently depending on events, Pthumerians, and moon cycles. These changes will vary significantly. These changes are meant to represent the intricate relationship between Sleeper blood and the world around them.

Players are always welcome to opt-out of anything in this section, but we do strongly encourage participants to help create a consistent atmosphere for the game. To those who opt-out OOCly, characters cannot ICly contradict these events.

There will be some months where all blood types are impacted or only some blood types are impacted. Rarely will there be months where no blood types are impacted.

WARMBLOODS:: Warmbloods will feel extremely aggressive this month. They will feel increasingly defensive and may be more sensitive and protective of themselves, other warmbloods, and vilebloods. They will feel especially hostile towards coldbloods.

COLDBLOODS:: Coldbloods will feel extremely vengeful this month. It will be difficult for them to find internal peace. They will project an enormous amount of this against warmbloods, but will also feel varying degrees of hostility towards vilebloods.

PALEBLOODS:: Palebloods will feel extremely impatient this month. They will be unusually sensitive to agitation and struggle with emotional stability. This can be exacerbated by the other bloodtypes. Alternatively, if a paleblood focuses on calming one of the other bloodtypes, they may find relief from their impatience.

VILEBLOODS:: Vilebloods will feel extremely paranoid this month. They will feel like everyone is out to get them and may feel more untrusting of other bloodtypes except for warmbloods and other vilebloods. They will feel extremely paranoid of darkbloods and struggle with feeling safe near them.

DARKBLOODS:: Darkbloods will feel extremely stressed this month. They will feel increasingly like they are losing control of themselves, mentally or power-wise. They will begin to feel like vilebloods may be leeching their abilities from them somehow and will have increased hostility towards vilebloods.

LEVELS OF CORRUPTION:: Corruption will be extremely high this month as tensions between bloodtypes is forced by an unknown source. Many Sleepers who suffer from the consequences this month will feel like they can hear a woman's distant singing coming from the woods. There are rumors that it might be the work of a curse...

LEVELS OF BEASTHOOD:: Beasthood will be generally low this month, but those who let the corruption consume them may find themselves falling into complete despair.

MOD ANNOUNCEMENTS (OOC)
AC FREE MONTH
December is an AC FREE MONTH. You will not be required to make AC during December, but you still need to check-in. If you need someone to check in for you, please ask a friend or reach out to the mod team so we can prepare that for you.

APPLICATIONS
December 2021's application cycle will be the last month you can use the Deerington half-application.

Starting January 1st, 2022 all applicants will be required to use the full application when applying to our game regardless of prior involvement with Deerington Chapter 1.

Starting January 1st, 2022 we will no longer be allowing 4/5th characters. Each player will be limited to 3 characters only.

EVENT STYLE
We are hoping to introduce a new style of events starting in December. There will still be the same three-paced prompts but told in the style of an Archival Entry. The idea is that characters would be ICly able to find these entries somewhere in the Archives and be able to preemptively anticipate/study events that occur during certain months.

This is meant to capture the fact that the events of Deer Country have some more consistency and have been logged by ancient Sleepers and other Trenchies. This will also provide an IC way for brand new characters to be able to investigate old events in a more organic way.

What will these "Archival Entries" look like? Basically very blunt, informational-driven prompts that read a bit more like actual scholar journals rather than the traditional "You wake up in a room" story-style prompts we typically provide. These story-style prompts will still be available on our TDMs and for a few events if appropriate. We hope that this new style of event writing will be more concise and easier to pull ideas from. And we hope that it will be something everybody can enjoy!
IMPACT SUMMARIES (OOC/IC)
Did your character start a new business last month? Did they have a massive fight? Solve some mysteries? Then this is the place to summarize the impact they have had on the setting! We hope this makes it easier for everyone to collectively stay in the loop about what other players are doing. This is not required but we feel it will help provide a sense of community among the characters. All impacts summarized should be incidents that could be publically discovered or referenced. Impacts can be from player plots, mod events, TDMs, character-created businesses, or other such concepts.

This will also serve as a light plotting post for those who are interested in bringing on more people for whatever they have done/how they plan to continue with their personal plots. Please fill out the following form and post it as a comment on this page!

Impact summaries are more or less meant to keep characters and/or players in the loop. This does not take the place of proper CR memes or plotting posts for events.

There will be a OOC Impact Top Level comment players can use to discuss OOC impacts in a more formal, OOC manner where players can discuss the nitty-gritty details and ask questions or plot. This is where you can use the form:

"Wesker's Report. Entry Date: December 6th, Year One

"The Blood Crazed Zealots both appall and intrigue me. The intrigue me for their understanding of Corruption, and for their ability to harness it and avoid falling into Beasthood. Given that my relation to the Progenitor Virus resembles - or resembled - Corruption, I've wondered if a means could be devised whereby the arguably better aspects can be harnessed and controlled. However, they appall me for what they enacted on me.

"I escaped their clutches once. But given things I'd overheard my captors muttering when they thought I could not hear, I sought a means to fall into their hands again.

"But as they say, be careful what you wish for. A hook seized me in Cellar Door and I fell unconscious. When I awakened, they already had me strapped down, cut open, a line for transfusion collection jar taped into a vein in my leg, and my torso opened up. Not merely the Y-incision some of you have probably seen from the better-produced law enforcement procedurals, but also with part of my ribcage cut out. My own healing factor worked against me and kept alive if horribly weakened.

"However, a dark angel found me and freed ne from this state. Maul, to whom I already owe a debt for other times he has assisted me, found me in this state. He asked me if I wished to die. I gave him my permission to end my suffering, which he did, strangling me with his clawed hands around my throat till I suffocated.

"Not until yesterday did I revive and return via the sea. At the moment, I am unable to speak. I hope this effect runs its course soon.

Future Impact Plans: "I want it to be made known that Maul is not have this act of euthanasia held against him. Given my rapid healing ability, it took a direct act of strangulation to put an end to that and to my suffering. I will have no bleeding hearts standing on the hill of misguided moralizing. What would you have done in that situation, were you the one suffering, or the one seeing a well-valued companion in a state of evisceration, with few means of freeing them?

"At the same time, the Zealots must be curbed. While their knowledge may be indispensable, and their blood harvest may nourish this land, their ethics have much to be desired. I do not say this lightly."
