OCTOBER 2021 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to Deer Country's Newsletter! This is a half IC, half OOC informational post. We strongly urge our player base to read all Newsletters posted to the community as they contain important information about that month's weather, environmental changes, other plot-important information, important dates, and any important mod announcements. Newsletters will allow a chance for players to post about the impact their characters may have made in the setting using the form down below.
You can always feel free to ask questions on newsletters. Of course, we may sometimes suggest you wait until the event for certain questions, but for the most part, we should be able to help you out! Players are welcome to engage with the prompts/elements from Newsletter as soon as they are accepted into the game. Players may also use newsletter prompts as a basis for writing samples in applications.

ENVIORMENTAL CHANGES (IC)

CURRENT SEASON:: Season of Blood; the season of change and movement. The nights seem to last longer in October. The sun begins to set around 4pm. You have precious hours of daylight left.
THE MOON:: Blood Moon. October deepens the red of the Blood Moon from September, turning it a more familiar shade of dark red, though still nowhere near as dark as it usually got. The moon remains fuller for longer, the streets vibrant with its unusual red light. It can pull people into trances, leaving citizens vulnerable to attack as they stand about outside, staring up at the moon as if expecting answers to questions they never asked. You cannot see the Moon Presence this month. Instead, you hear a constant sobbing throughout the streets. It's enough to give anyone the chills.
PATRON PTHUMERIAN:: Cloverfieldand Mother Mercy. Those who's patron is Cloverfield or falsely Mother Mercy will find themselves easily driven to tears this month. To those who have lost loved ones emotionally or physically, you will find yourself thinking about them more than usual and may start to mourn the lost souls. It is easy to fall into despair this month.
MONTHLY BLESSINGS:: On your Blessed Day this month, if your Patron Pthumerian is Cloverfield, you will be blessed with a Memory's Touch. This small glass sphere will have a random flower within it that will blossom and fall apart periodically. When it is blossoming, you can touch the ball and receive a vivid sense-based memory. It may be the exact smell of your favorite meal growing up or a song you used to listen to in your homeworld. It might be the actual feeling of your parent's arms wrapped around you when you last said goodbye to them or the feeling of a lover's kiss. It could be the noise of the city you used to live in, the taste of your grandmother's cookies, or the sound of an old friend's laugh. It's not exactly the memory in full, but it's an immediate nostalgic kick that you'll identify within seconds. You will be able to enjoy the sensory memory for as long as the flower inside is blossoming. Once the petals have fallen, the memory is gone, but when the flower blossoms once more, there will be a new sensory memory to enjoy. The flower inside may change to better fit whatever type of memory it has or stay the same flower. The duration of how long a flower stays blossoming or how long between blossoms can vary. This item can be used by anyone who touches it but will only contain one memory at a time relevant to the last person who touched the item. This item can be lost. It will appear one day in a small patch of moss that has grown somewhere in your home.
THE WEATHER:: October is chillier than September, but with far less rain. Although there is less rain, the wind begins to pick up, and soon the streets of Trench are howling with strong gusts. Some wind may be strong enough to knock over lamp posts. It's good wind for flying kites in though...Just try not to be swept away by the breeze. At times, you would swear that the wind sounds like the howling of spirits moaning around your home...But that's wind for you. Because why would there be ghosts in Trench!
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES:: Summer is leaving and the weather is noticably much cooler. People will soon begin harvesting. The nights will be longer until spring resumes with the Flushed Moon.
EFFECTS FROM PREVIOUS MONTH:: The sea level is slightly higher due to the rains of September. The waves will brush up closer against the Boardwalk. Some of the canals throughout Trench will have overflowed a bit onto the streets. It's smelling a little fishy...

Each month, blood types will be impacted differently depending on events, Pthumerians, and moon cycles. These changes will vary significantly. These changes are meant to represent the intricate relationship between Sleeper blood and the world around them.
Players are always welcome to opt-out of anything in this section, but we do strongly encourage participants to help create a consistent atmosphere for the game. To those who opt-out OOCly, characters cannot ICly contradict these events.
There will be some months where all blood types are impacted or only some blood types are impacted. Rarely will there be months where no blood types are impacted.
WARMBLOODS:: Warmbloods will feel unusually vulnerable this month, both physically and emotionally. It will often feel like they can perish at any moment if they do the wrong thing which might cause some to self-isolate out of paranoia. Even a powerful Warmblood will feel like they aren't quite powerful enough. This will not impact any abilities, but it sure will impact confidence towards abilities and may make one hesitate at a critical moment.
COLDBLOODS:: Coldbloods will be haunted by incessant whispering this month and the sensastion of being watched or followed. When a coldblood uses their abilities, they will hear a flurry of incomprehensible whispers. Some coldbloods will be able to naturally recognize this to be the Pthumerian language, while others might feel it's just nonsensical babbling. Some coldbloods may realize some of these whispers belong to something far older, far more powerful than Pthumerians...As for the feelings of being watched? This will vary the less sleep a coldblood has. They may become increasingly paranoid that they are being watched by unseen forces, and eventually, they may feel like other characters keep staring at them (even if they aren't). This may cause defensive aggitation in some coldbloods.
PALEBLOODS:: Visions will have cleared up from September. Palebloods will have vivid visions once more. Many Palebloods will see bright, misty shapes moving about the city. If palebloods touch these shapes, they will become chilled and feel an overwhelming sense of dread. The chilled feeling will last several hours to several days. Palebloods will be prone to migraines and disorientation this month, but sitting with a vileblood may soothe their headaches.
VILEBLOODS:: Vilebloods will become either mildly or severely impaired by any food or drink they consume. For whatever reason, ingesting things this month for vileblood will lead to feelings similar to that of being drunk/high or otherwise mentally altered. Some vilebloods will find that certain food/drink may be much more potent than others. Maybe vanilla makes them completely wasted while chocolate only gives them a slight buzz. Whatever is going on, this will seem to make the toxicity of their blood go completely out of whack. The only thing that a vileblood can eat this month without these consequences is, ironically, anything poisonous. Eating spoiled food/drinks or literal poisons will benefit a vileblood the way normal food typically would. Guess beggars can't be choosers? This effect will only last a few hours after eating/drinking and is generally not fatal.
DARKBLOODS:: Darkbloods will find that they are capable of soaking up shadows, including their own. When they soak in shadows, they increase their awareness of their surroundings which can temporarily boost their reality-warping abilities. The ability to soak up shadows can silence their steps. If they soak up enough shadows, they can become invisible. All shadows will return to the earth eventually after a couple of hours and darkbloods will need to continually pull up shadows.
LEVELS OF CORRUPTION:: There will be exceedingly high levels of corruption during October as grief seizes the city. Night extending also typically means more dangers come out to play and madness is easy to fall to.
LEVELS OF BEASTHOOD:: As the nights grow long, beasts will begin to feel safer in coming out to hunt for longer hours. Keep those incense burning. The night is full of terrors and has only just begun.

Did your character start a new business last month? Did they have a massive fight? Solve some mysteries? Then this is the place to summarize the impact they have had on the setting! We hope this makes it easier for everyone to collectively stay in the loop about what other players are doing. This is not required but we feel it will help provide a sense of community among the characters. All impacts summarized should be incidents that could be publically discovered or referenced. Impacts can be from player plots, mod events, TDMs, character-created businesses, or other such concepts.
This will also serve as a light plotting post for those who are interested in bringing on more people for whatever they have done/how they plan to continue with their personal plots. Please fill out the following form and post it as a comment on this page!

The intention of a character using the Newsletter would be the equivalent of a character using a news outlet source - the idea is that whatever they share to the Newsletter will reach the entire city of Trench rather than exclusively Sleepers. When the impact happened: October and onward. Planning an IC announcement post mid-October pending the event.
Nature of Impact: Character business
Impact Summary: Wu is starting up a performance/community space called the Raccoon Room. He & associated CR have been working on it since they arrived in Trench, and it's almost ready to open to the public. The Raccoon Room will host performers of all kinds to either perform on specific nights, or you're welcome to come to open mic nights.
Future Impact Plans:
In search of:
- Performers! Does your character want to sing/play music? Put on a play? Do a stand up routine? Really, anything that needs a stage! You can assume that they perform at the Raccoon Room. Let me know if your character is interested! I'll probably include a slate of who performed in these impact summaries going forward.
- Bartenders! Does your character need a job? Do they know how to make drinks? Yes? Great! No? Also great! They can learn on the go if they don't mind an active manager who has a lot of opinions about How Things Should Be.
- Ticket takers/ushers/theater tech/maintenance! Running a theater is hard work. Does your character like to be behind the scenes? Wu would be overjoyed to hand off some of the day-to-day running of the Raccoon Room.
- Audience! Every great performer needs a great audience. This could be you! After the Raccoon Room is ICly announced, feel free to assume your character went to a show or ten.

Safe Houses

Impact Summary: Ruby and Mako are starting up a network of safe houses/food caches around Trench. So when things get dangerous those in need have somewhere to go. They are currently recruiting people to help out with project. Either by providing supplies, protection methods or just hanging around. If you’d like your character involved drop a line!

Nature of Impact: Character Business
Impact Summary:
Vira-Lorr, shortly after finding a home in Cellar Door, converts an attached room into a business. "The Third Eye" is a Fortune Teller/Mystical Consultant's parlor. Vira-Lorr offers her services in seeing the future, performing fortune teller readings, using psychometry to assist in identifying items and their properties. She treats it as a chance to counsel those who come by, helping to guide them through problems/questions of a mystical nature.
A Unique aspect of the shop is that it has access to relics of the Nightmare that include recorded memories of several key events within the nightmare, serving as an interest to nearby Arcane Scholars (And distaste of the Disciples).

Future Impact Plans:
Vira-Lorr's Shop is intended to employ one person at a time. I want to focus on its functions as a Night Walker (since she can do Arcane Scholars' stuff in various pro-active threads with others). Fortune Telling involves a lot of talking and sharing, so this is a chance to help people deal with problems related to mystical things. It involves the social interaction that can help combat corruption.
I don't have specific plans related to this business, but if you have anything, let me know!

Nature of Impact: character business
Impact Summary: lull is an establishment meant for minor healing through blood ministry arts, night walker services, and socialization. it's in a japanese-style home and there's a bar, a sort of stage, a number of tables with hookahs, and a few private rooms for blood ministry and night walkers to do their thing in. atmosphere is chill and smoky. come say hey!

When the impact happened: Ongoing.
Nature of Impact: Personal/event? More of a little flavour thing.
Impact Summary: Is your character having a rough time finding a consistent source of coffee? Disaster House has your back! Fern received an infinite bag of hazelnut-flavoured coffee beans from the OA during Chapter 1 that the entire house is free to use and give away or trade to other Sleepers/Trenchies.
If hazelnut isn't your character's jam Fern can also insta-grow coffee plants for other bean varieties, though this is more limited in scope since he can only grow so much before tiring out.
Varian mentioned these options over in Shiro's post, so this information is publicly available.
Future Impact Plans: This is meant to be one more option for Trench residents to get ahold of a resource that may not be readily (and/or cheaply) available throughout the year.
