JULY 2023 NEWSLETTER
JULY 2023 NEWSLETTER
Welcome to Deer Country's Newsletter! This is a half IC, half OOC informational post. We strongly urge our player base to read all Newsletters posted to the community as they contain important information about that month's weather, environmental changes, other plot-important information, important dates, and any important mod announcements. Newsletters will allow a chance for players to post about the impact their characters may have made in the setting using the form down below.
You can always feel free to ask questions on newsletters. Of course, we may sometimes suggest you wait until the event for certain questions, but for the most part, we should be able to help you out! Players are welcome to engage with the prompts/elements from Newsletter as soon as they are accepted into the game. Players may also use newsletter prompts as a basis for writing samples in applications.

ENVIROMENTAL CHANGES (IC)
Environmental Changes • Influences on Blood Types • Monthly Calendar • Mod Announcements • Impact Summaries • Newsletter Questions
CURRENT SEASON:: The Season of Blood, known as a time of change and transition. Ominous feelings permeate the whole of Deerington as it feels as if something monumental approaches.
THE MOON:: The Beast Moon is a sort of faint orange this month, shrouded when visible by a haze and frequent fog during the early day. Feelings of animosity for past wrongs can bubble to the surface, but feel more or less at a human level. It is as if Reckoning's energy is pointed elsewhere at the moment.
PATRON PTHUMERIAN:: July's Patron Pthumerian is The Reckoning. Known as the most ruthless and violent of all the Pthumerians, she can be found very easily this month, at least for the first week of it anyway. The towering figure stands on the coastline, facing to the ocean. Her blade is at the ready, and there is an immense pressure that fills the air all around her. It is not possible to draw within striking distance before falling to one's knee, the overwhelming force keeping even the inhumanly strengthened at bay. The closer to the end of the first week, the more the pressure feels almost lethal, and it feels safer to stay out of the range of that great sword's swing.
MONTHLY BLESSINGS:: Rather than a blessing solely for the favored of the Reckoning on their Blessed Day, a unique gift is found by every sleeper in Trench on the 8th of the month. A clockwork key may be found on a chain around their neck when they wake that morning. The keys are themselves identical, and when one holds theirs there is an obvious sense of peace upon them. The key's effect is incredibly profound, and appears to be one last gift to the sleepers.
If one travels into unexplored regions of Trench's planet, the key will protect them from any excess blood corruption that appears to fill the world. It will not completely avoid corruption, as there is always something of a peril even in Trench. However, it will mitigate the worst of it when one is far away from civilization, causing it to be possible for Sleepers to travel much further from the city's limits and, if they can find lanterns, potentially place them down a considerable distance away. It minimizes the risk of instantly or quickly falling into beasthood by traveling "too far." A note will explain that the gift is to them, not from the Reckoning, but from the Moon Presence herself. Cynthia tells those who choose to remain that they, and any sleeper who arrives afterwards, will be given keys like this, so that they may search out the true nature of this world, that they may see what her daughter has wrought with their own eyes.
THE WEATHER:: It is hot, and it is muggy throughout the last days of June. The heat does not break, becoming almost oppressive during July. Thunderstorms rage throughout the first week of the month, crackling with red lightning that arcs between the clouds but never actually strikes the ground. It feels as if the skies themselves are building charge. There are periods of letting up in the rain, making travel possible, but it is sopping wet outside and a little miserable. On the 8th, the Storm breaks.
SIGNIFICANT CHANGES:: The Votes were fairly close among those who voted, but the results were sufficiently clear to make a determination. Riteior's Former City will be sealed by Hali, removing any lingering Pthumerian presence in the city. The entire city will not be sealed at first, though over time the bubble of space may grow to fully encompass the ancient city. Initially, the bastion begins at the Town Hall with several city block region large enough to begin supporting life cordoned off, completely apart from Pthumerian influence. Hali himself gives a final address after leaving behind a lantern just outside of the barrier to facilitate travel, saying that he will be taking time to meditate on his own, but remains thankful to the sleepers.
A New and Thriving Community will be promised by Hali's compatriot, who sets off with a group of architects and blood ministers from the city of Trench. At some point around the middle of the month, Sleepers will find a new Lantern Location established within a city. The new establishment is little more than a firm palisade surrounding a village with a robust Hunter Presence. A shrine to "The Slumbering One" stands in the middle of the square, a bowl in front of it available for libations of blood to be offered. It seems clear that the Slumbering One appreciates the donations, though the locals will insist that people are not meant to give "too much," whatever that means. Homes are communal, but construction is lively, and the community seems to be free for the moment of monsters, though that is expected not to last forever. The Slumbering One is nowhere to be seen in the aftermath of the shrine being established.
The Outpost remains largely unchanged by the events of recent months. Neither Hali, nor the Slumbering One's influence touches the community and its growth continues at a more measured, if difficult pace. The veneration of the Pthumerians is not unheard of in the place, though it is somewhat more distant as it has neither a patron, nor is sealed off. It seems almost as if the Pthumerians now maintain the most detached of curiosity, wondering what will become of a town fashioned solely by sleeper wills.
EFFECTS FROM PREVIOUS MONTH:: Mosquitos can still be found in increased quantities. Blood fevers and larger, monstrous bugs are possible to encounter, though their numbers are greatly diminished.

EFFECTS FROM PREVIOUS MONTH:: Mosquitos can still be found in increased quantities. Blood fevers and larger, monstrous bugs are possible to encounter, though their numbers are greatly diminished.
Each month, blood types will be impacted differently depending on events, Pthumerians, and moon cycles. These changes will vary significantly. These changes are meant to represent the intricate relationship between Sleeper blood and the world around them.
Players are always welcome to opt-out of anything in this section, but we do strongly encourage participants to help create a consistent atmosphere for the game. To those who opt-out OOCly, characters cannot ICly contradict these events.
There will be some months where all blood types are impacted or only some blood types are impacted. Rarely will there be months where no blood types are impacted.
ALL BLOOD TYPES:: This month everyone experiences the exact same effect. There is an ominous sense of foreboding that fills the whole of the month. It begins to crescendo all the way to the 8th of the month and the start of the events that will transpire. However, even afterwards that sense of foreboding continues. It is the feeling one gets before a monumental choice is made. And, once that choice is made, there is nothing but peace once more.
LEVELS OF CORRUPTION:: Moderate. Corruption can be seen at times, though it is not pronounced for the period. It feels as if to some extent, the state of Blood Corruption is beginning to stabilize. It is not departing entirely, but it is more controlled.
LEVELS OF BEASTHOOD:: Beasthood is not unheard of this month, particularly with those who spend far too much time on the Beach, in sight of the Reckoning.

IMPACT SUMMARIES (OOC/IC)
Did your character start a new business last month? Did they have a massive fight? Solve some mysteries? Then this is the place to summarize the impact they have had on the setting! We hope this makes it easier for everyone to collectively stay in the loop about what other players are doing. This is not required but we feel it will help provide a sense of community among the characters. All impacts summarized should be incidents that could be publically discovered or referenced. Impacts can be from player plots, mod events, TDMs, character-created businesses, or other such concepts.
This will also serve as a light plotting post for those who are interested in bringing on more people for whatever they have done/how they plan to continue with their personal plots. Please fill out the following form and post it as a comment on this page!
Impact summaries are more or less meant to keep characters and/or players in the loop. This does not take the place of proper CR memes or plotting posts for events.
There will be a OOC Impact Top Level comment players can use to discuss OOC impacts in a more formal, OOC manner where players can discuss the nitty-gritty details and ask questions or plot. This is where you can use the form:
